The goal of this site has always been to help others with their writing, but the material presented actually has its roots in my own frustrations as a writer. For example  -  personally I was always good at writing snippets but relatively lousy at putting the pieces together.

Everybody has different sticking points. A few of the more common ones are:

  • Writer’s Block

  • Creating Realistic Dialogue

  • Character Development

  • Creating Suspense and Dramatic Tension

There are many more, but whatever it is for you, you’ll generally find that the road-blocks to great writing – and writing that you enjoy doing – are made up of many little sticking points like these.

And this is exactly where creative writing exercises can help…

Creative Writing Exercises

You probably remember a literature or English class back in high school where you were actually forced to do some kind of writing exercises. At the time they probably seemed dull, uninspired, and even arbitrary. And this is one reason that many writers tend to shy away from them.

But the fact is creative writing exercises are a great way of nailing down your sticking points as a writer!

One of the reasons for this is their capacity to target the weak spots in your writing directly and individually. Instead of just trying to write book after book, and hoping your overall writing will improve, with exercises like these you can actually isolate a particular sticking point and devote your entire focus to it.
